Druminyasa Fall Equinox Flow with Lexi Hawks Fri, Sep 22, 2017 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Feel the changing rhythms of the season as you connect breath, heartbeat, mind, and body in this 90-minute Vinyasa flow. To celebrate the fall equinox, join yoga teacher Lexi Hawks and Druminyasa percussionist Brad Ellsworth for this rhythmic and dynamic class. Take a journey through music and movement to reflect upon all that has transpired in the lightness of summer and to usher in the harvest of fall.

During the fall equinox, the Earth experiences equal parts light and dark. On this day, it is believed that the world is in absolute balance, and the perfect time to create harmony within and around ourselves. By assessing our inner-abundance, we are able to plan for what we need in the coming dark months. We create a path to stabilize and comfort the body and mind, allowing for longer periods of self-reflection and union to the divine, inner light. The fall equinox is a time to honor the light of growth and the darkness of restoration. Here, the light and the dark reveal deep peace or shanti.

Brad Ellsworth of Druminyasa, as featured on CBS “Try out Druminyasa for a one-of-a-kind yoga experience,” and The Washington Times and appearing at festivals, studios and special events, has been playing drums and percussion for over 25 years. A yoga practitioner and teacher, Brad founded Druminyasa by connecting his love for rhythm, drums and movement.

Lexi Hawks, E-RYT 500Hr Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher, is the founder and director of Longwave Yoga. Lexi’s teachings are rooted in her belief that the practice of Yoga is available to every body and help create a life of true connection and abundance. With over 10 years experience in her own teaching including private & public classes, workshops, retreats and teacher trainings Lexi has been dedicated in always remaining a student. Having traveled and studied extensively over the years, she holds immense gratitude for all her teachers and life mentors starting at a young age with dance, learning spirit through movement and the transformational yoga practices and studies she encountered as a young adult. Lexi continues to diversify her education to deliver classes that are both imaginative, fresh and intelligently sequenced. Her classes and teachings will take you on both a journey of the body, as she guides you through integrative movement that flows naturally from one posture to the next, and the spirit as she intricately weaves her intention through each class leaving you feeling connected, balanced and grounded.
“Yoga is a gift to be celebrated and shared! Every moment, on and off the mat, is another opportunity to cultivate clarity and connection.” - Lexi Hawks

The Practice: Threading Consciousness Through the Body w/ Nikki Costello with Longwave Yoga . Next held on Fri, Oct 13, 2017 at 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
This enrollment runs from Fri Oct 13, 2017 - Sun Oct 15, 2017
The Practice: Threading Consciousness Through The Body

The Practice is Svadhyaya, SELF-study and a journey towards Truth, Consciousness and Bliss. All aspects of our being are engaged in a rigorous and inquisitive learning space where we explore the teachings of yoga through asana, pranayama, meditation and contemplation. To fully realize our wholeness and freedom in the body, we look more closely at its individual parts. Each of the five sessions will focus on one of the five elements and the physical postures and breathing techniques that can awaken, stimulate, purify and harmonize them. Simultaneously, we will reflect on qualities like steadfastness and tranquillity to experience our physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual bodies as one interwoven body of consciousness. The Practice offers a transformative experience to all levels of student. The pre-requisite is an enthusiastic, curious and honest seeker who wishes to know the SELF.

“Passing a thread through the eye of a needle
Requires a steady hand and focused attention.
In yoga, our mind becomes the needle.
Our consciousness the all-knowing eye,
Graciously weaving the threads of each movement and action
Into a miraculous tapestry of vital energy.”
–Nikki Costello

Schedule:

The Root Practice: Cultivating Steadfastness
Friday, October 13
6:00- 8:00pm

In any endeavour, the quality of steadfastness is essential. It is an expression of our commitment, faith and willingness to go further and longer toward fulfilling a goal. The element of EARTH represents this quality and the practice of standing poses will establish a steady foundation for all other postures. This class will develop stamina and focus. It serves as an introduction to the intelligent language of the body for proper alignment and balanced action. All levels are welcome and encouraged to begin here.

The Core Practice: Cultivating Contentment
Saturday, October 14
10am- 1:00pm

When we go with the flow, move with fluidity and are able to easefully adjust our direction, the quality of contentment is within our hearts. When we struggle, feel stuck; frustrated or blocked all we want is the courage to get moving again. As we explore the WATER element within the physical body this precious resource restores our natural balance. In the practice of forward extensions and abdominal exercises we will play with core balance as we strengthen and stretch the back and tone and relax the abdomen. Intermediate and advanced students. Pregnant or menstruating women will receive alternative poses to support the WATER element during these times.

The Silent Practice: Cultivating Tranquility
Saturday, October 14
3:00- 5:00pm

The Prana Shakti, or life force, sustains all things and acts within us through our breath. In this exploration of the element of AIR, you will connect to your breath as a vital resource for relaxing the body and quieting the mind. The practice of inversions and supine pranayama lead to the quality of tranquillity. All levels welcome. Alternative postures will be given for those who need assistance in inversions like headstand and shoulder stand.

The Joyful Practice: Cultivating Hope
Sunday, October 15
10am- 1:00pm

When we think about the element of FIRE, some things come to mind. It emanates heat, creates light and can burn if we get to close. The FIRE of Yoga has been used as a metaphor for a transformational process that takes place within a human being. The heat starts to soften, the burn destroys old patterns and the light produces a radiant glow. One of the signs that this process is happening is in the way we start to see the world. Joy and light replace sorrow and darkness and the quality of hope is born from this fire.
We will practice twists, arm balances and backward extensions to appreciate the benefits of FIRE. For intermediate and advanced students. Not recommended for pregnant or menstruating women. If you are unable to participate but wish to observe, registration is required.

The Meditation Practice: Cultivating Unity
Sunday, October 15
3:00- 5:00pm

The element of ETHER reveals the vastness of our inner universe. We rely on all the other elements to know the space within. In this culminating practice, each element will be touched upon as we explore the supine and seated postures in guided meditations. In meditation, the walls and barriers that create separateness dissolve and the experience of unity emerges. Even a glimpse of inner space can set us on a path toward freedom. All levels welcome.

Cost:
Investment for all five workshops: $300
Early Bird: $260 (Until September 10, 2017)

It has infused her daily life, whether it's a sunrise meditation at the beach or a long paddle in the coastal waterways, her love for the elements has created a foundation for her lifestyle. Being a certified yoga instructor, naturally Julie was excited to try a SUP Yoga class as another fun way to enjoy the great outdoors. After her first class Julie knew she must share this experience with others. Julie is a long-time resident of Wrightsville Beach and has extensive knowledge of the local waterways and weather patterns, as well as water safety and water rescue training. As the Senior SUP Yoga teacher for Longwave Yoga, Julie has apprenticed and co-facilitated the Longwave SUP Yoga Teacher Training Program since it's conception in 2014. Julie has ran countless adventures out on the water and has helped yogis discover the love of paddling, and paddlers discover a love for yoga. As Julie guides you not only on the water, but also through a yoga asana class on your floating yoga mat, expect to be challenged in the best of ways and be prepared to discover the true present moment within the elements.

Jarrod Covington, owner and found of Wrightsville SUP was born in Beaufort, NC, Jarrod Covington has spent his life on the water. Although surfing and windsurfing were constants in that childhood, his interests quickly expanded to include kiteboarding, paddle boarding, fishing, and a great deal more.

Covington graduated from UNC Wilmington with a degree in Finance, but ever loyal to the southeastern coast, he walked away from the corporate grind. Forecasting the potential for SUP growth in the area, he founded Wrightsville SUP in 2011.
