Soon our star will reach its greatest height, known as the Summer Solstice. On June 21st the day will be full of sunshine and we will celebrate the longest day of the year.
Summer, known as the Pitta (Fire) season brings with it many joys… sunshine, warmer ocean water, and a natural lift of energy making people, animals, and the natural world around us more lively and vibrant. We can see this by simply observing the blooms in our gardens, the birds playfully singing outside the window…and in our own natural tendencies…Is your social calendar looking a little more full and fun these days? We know ours is!
As the solar energy naturally increases over the next few weeks, take time to consider what practices might help you find and restore balance within and around you.
Here are a few summer tips from our teacher’s here at Longwave to help keep you super cool :)• Take your yoga practice outdoors and onto the water with SUP YOGA, a practice enveloped within all the elements that demands mindfulness and core integration. Feeling too hot or just want to get playful? Fall in for a dip in the fresh salt water! Falling is half the fun!
• Embrace the endless summer and start surfing. You might be surprised to find out that yoga helps with surfing, and surfing has total presence just like our yoga practice.
• Add a more cooling practice to your already heated day… try a Yin or Restorative class here at the studio. It’s a nice reprieve from the heat and the summer shenanigans.
• Drink cooling Coconut water and eat foods that sooth the fire element internally…. More Kale Please!
We look forward to spending these long sunny summer days with you whether it’s seizing the benefits of this extra yang energy in the air or learning how to chill out (We know you Pitta-Vatta people hear us on this one!) Let’s explore all that this beautiful season has to offer; seaside, on the water, or simply a post flow re-tox.
