"Well I would definitely have to fly, but I'd also like to breathe underwater so I'd be a cross between Wonderwoman, Storm, and Aquaman."

Our teachers are what keep the energy flowing in our studio (and out in the elements) and we would love for you to meet all of them! This month, we are highlighting Rachael Goolsby! Learn more about her below...

Do you have a favorite playlist that you would like to feature?

Nope. Breath and silence and the occasional chant are the music for my classes. Although- I do love music!

Favorite yoga pose?

Hmmmm- right now I'm digging on Eka pada galavasana

What is yoga to you/What brought you to yoga?

Yoga is like my own personal train station. I go there to check in, clear out, and refuel. From there I travel to new places from a solid familiar knowing of who I am and what I want to accomplish. My father introduced me to yoga at age 3.

Example of your yoga off the mat?

I love sharing yoga with friends and family. Most recently my family had a little outdoor session at a rest stop in Florida around Thanksgiving holiday. I'm currently working on organizing a yoga benefit for the North Carolina Friends of Midwives. Yoga is all pervasive and bleeds into all aspects of my life.

Specific classes/style of teaching:

Currently I teach a class entitled "Mindful Alignment" at Longwave Yoga. I teach workshops and lead retreats and trainings. I also volunteer at my girls' school to teach kids yoga.

Your invitation to the population:

I invite you to come into the beautiful space at Longwave, to share the sacred space of practice with others. I invite you to move, be still, listen, sweat, work, play and get to know your body as a friend.

What superhero would you be and why?

Well I would definitely have to fly, but I'd also like to breathe underwater so I'd be a cross between Wonderwoman, Storm, and Aquaman. I also have an affinity toward Jan & Zana- the Wonder Twins (and their monkey Bleep) - as I have a twin sister.

What’s your spirit animal/why?

A wolf- a wolf is loyal and sticks with the pack, yet is wild, fierce and not afraid to go it alone.

Role model or most influential teacher (yoga or non-yoga related)?

My mother- she is a true humanitarian- kind, a good listener, fair, creative, intelligent and well- organized.

What’s the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while teaching?

I used to own a yoga studio in Charlotte with my sister and when one studio was full, we'd allow more students to practice in a room next door. There was a tiny hallway between then and so we would hop back and forth between the two groups. I felt like a leprechaun!

Where would you go in a time machine?

I'd love to see the dinosaurs.

What is something a lot of people don’t know about you but you wish they did?

I love textiles! Admiring, sewing, designing, and dying with natural dyes. Or experimenting with weaving, embroidery and knitting.

What is the best way to lift your mood? /What is your happy place?

Hugs and kisses/ I love going home to the mountains; and Shavasana after a challenging practice.

Where was your last vacation?

Costa Rica, leading a yoga adventure. I love traveling!

Happiest moment in your life?

I'll pick two: When my girls were born

Do you sing in the shower?

Of course. And the grocery line too.

If you could learn to do something new, what would it be?

I'd really like to try sky diving.
